Since the birth of the automobile, humanity has chased the thrill of greater speed. The 1885 Benz Patent-Motorwagen—the world’s first motorized carriage—topped out at a modest 10mph. Fast forward to 2025, and road-legal cars now reach speeds over 30 times that figure.
Jet-powered dragsters may exceed 700mph, but these fiery beasts have no place on public roads. For those who want to push limits on a runway and cruise home in the same vehicle, here are the 10 fastest production cars of 2025.

1. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut – Over 310mph (499km/h)

The Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut takes the brand’s already extraordinary hypercar and dials it up with more power and sleeker aerodynamics. Under the hood lies a twin-turbocharged 5.0-liter V8 engine churning out 1,600hp and 1,500Nm of torque, all packaged in a lightweight 1,390kg frame.
While its 310mph top speed remains theoretical (unverified in real-world tests), the Jesko Absolut has already proven its mettle with other records. Most notably, it holds the world record for the fastest 0-400km/h (249mph) sprint followed by a full stop, completing the grueling run in just 27.83 seconds—hinting it could soon deliver on its speed promise.

2. Yangwang U9 Xtreme – 308mph (496km/h)

The Yangwang U9 Xtreme made history in September 2025 by securing the official title of the world’s fastest production car, hitting 308mph on a German runway—a milestone moment for electric vehicles.
Powered by four electric motors delivering a combined 3,000hp, it relies on a 1,200-volt electrical system (a stark contrast to the 400-volt setups in typical family EVs). Exclusivity matches its performance: only 30 units will be produced, with prices starting above £200,000.

3. SSC Tuatara – 295mph (475km/h)

American engineering shines in the SSC Tuatara, whose twin-turbocharged V8 engine pumps out up to 1,750hp when fueled with ethanol. The car’s speed legacy has been mired in controversy, though: SSC infamously claimed a 331mph run in October 2020, only to admit a GPS error inflated the figure.
However, real-world credibility arrived in 2022, when independent tests clocked it at 295mph. And in a 2025 showdown with the Hennessey Venom F5, the Tuatara pushed even further to 474.8km/h (295mph) at Florida’s Johnny Bohmer Proving Grounds, verified by Racelogic and an independent analyst.

4. Bugatti Tourbillon – 277mph (446km/h)

For anyone who grew up in the 2000s, “world’s fastest car” evokes memories of the Bugatti Veyron racing fighter planes on Top Gear. The Tourbillon carries that legacy forward with a 1,800hp V16 hybrid engine, launching this £3.2 million luxury rocket from 0-60mph in under 2 seconds.
Bugatti’s history suggests even more speed is coming: the brand squeezed over 300mph out of the old Chiron, so a faster Tourbillon variant could be on the horizon.

5. Hennessey Venom F5 – 272mph (438km/h)

Another American powerhouse, the Hennessey Venom F5, boasts a 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8 generating 1,817hp and 1,617Nm of torque. It hits 60mph in 2.6 seconds and currently tops out at 272mph—though that’s likely temporary.
Hennessey has long targeted a 300mph+ run, and while 2024 efforts fell short, the brand remains determined to push the F5’s limits even further.

6. Bugatti Mistral – 270mph (435km/h)

The Bugatti Mistral reigns as the world’s fastest convertible, reaching 270mph with the wind in your hair. It’s also the final Bugatti to feature the iconic 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine—a fitting swan song for the legendary power unit.
With 1,600hp and 1,600Nm of torque sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed auto, it’s as thrilling as it is rare. Even so, journalist Mat Watson famously tested it on a rainy day—proving some drivers dare to push limits no matter the weather.

7. Rimac Nevera R – 267mph (430km/h)

Croatian automaker Rimac turned its already wild Nevera electric hypercar up a notch with the Nevera R, now the speed 天花板 (speed ceiling) of electric supercars. Four electric motors boost output from 1,914hp to 2,107hp, pushing top speed from 256mph to 267mph—verified by a Guinness World Record.
It hits 60mph in a blistering 1.7 seconds (or 0-100km/h in 1.66s) and uses an AI torque vectoring system to stay planted through corners. A rematch with the McMurtry Spierling—who edged out the standard Nevera in a drag race—could finally tip the scales in Rimac’s favor.

8. Aspark Owl – 256mph (413km/h)

Aspark may be a little-known Japanese boutique brand, but the Owl is impossible to ignore: four electric motors deliver 1,953hp, launching it from 0-60mph in 1.7 seconds before hitting 256mph.
A faster variant, the 272mph Owl SP600, exists—but it’s not road-legal, keeping the standard Owl as the only street-ready option for speed-hungry collectors.

9. McLaren Speedtail – 250mph (402km/h)

McLaren didn’t build the Speedtail for speed records, yet it’s the brand’s fastest road car ever—outpacing even the new 237mph flagship W1. It’s also quicker than its iconic three-seat predecessor, the McLaren F1.
Its cyberpunk-worthy design skips drag-inducing wings for a slippery silhouette, making it as visually striking as it is fast. Imagine carrying two passengers at 250mph—proof speed and practicality can coexist (for the lucky few).

10. Koenigsegg Regera – 250mph (402km/h)

Tying the Speedtail is Sweden’s Koenigsegg Regera, a hybrid hypercar with a twin-turbo V8 and electric motor combining for 1,500hp. What makes it unique? It reaches 250mph using just one gear—no shifting needed, whether you’re cruising at 30mph or pushing its limits on a closed course.
It’s a bold engineering choice that pays off, cementing the Regera’s place among 2025’s fastest.
